The Darden Early Action Round: Darden is among a handful of US b-schools that offers applicants an early application deadline.
The biggest benefit is, you get your results earlier and can start planning for the transition to business school much earlier. Also, the Early application round allows you to schedule your own interview, whereas if you apply in subsequent rounds, then it is by invitation only.
You can select between the binding or non binding offer if you apply in the EA round, so this EA round is a little different from other b-schools (read Duke) which make a binding offer

Relationships Matter Here
Essay 1: What would you want your classmates to know about you that is not on your resume? 200 words
Darden is an intensely community-driven business school, and this prompt should be read through that lens. The words “Relationships Matter Here” and “what would you want your classmates to know about you” make it clear that Darden wants to understand the person behind the application.
Because Darden’s case method depends so deeply on discussion, trust, listening, and peer learning, classmates are not just people you sit beside. They shape how you think, challenge your assumptions, and learn from your experiences. In return, you also shape their learning. So this essay should help the reader imagine the kind of classmate you will be — in the classroom, in learning teams, and in the wider Darden community.
While brainstorming, applicants should think of those traits, values, strengths, anecdotes, interests or professional skills that reveal how you naturally connect with people. Ask yourself: what will classmates discover about you once they move beyond your resume? Maybe it is the way you build trust, the way you make people feel heard, the perspective you bring from your life outside work, or a personal passion that helps others connect with you more easily.
Applicants can build examples around these themes or any other that feels true to them and describes an important part of their personality or experiences. This is not a contribution essay; in fact, it may become weaker if the entire response is spent explaining how the applicant will contribute to Darden. The stronger approach is to reveal a real part of the applicant’s personality you will bring to Darden and how you will show up for others. You may add a few lines here about how you will make your presence felt at Darden. The reader should finish the essay feeling, “I understand what kind of person this applicant will be in our community.”
Given the 200-word limit, applicants should usually focus on one clear theme, or at most two closely connected ideas. The best essays will be specific, genuine, and human which don’t share a list of qualities, but a small window into the person their classmates will come to know.
Essay 2: Careers With Purpose
At this time, how would you describe your short-term, post-MBA goal in terms of industry, function, geography, company size and/or mission? How does it align with the long-term vision you have for your career? 200 words
Darden has retained its career goals question from past application cycles, and this is a direct, to-the-point prompt. The admissions team has clearly mentioned the areas they want applicants to cover: industry, function, geography, company size and/or mission. My biggest tip here is simple: answer every part of the question. Obvious as this may sound, candidates often submit incomplete answers, which can show a lack of attention to detail.
A strong goals essay often begins with the motivation behind the career path — what problem have you identified, what impact you hope to create, and why this direction matters to you. But keep this opening brief. Follow this with what your short term plan – where will you work and what will you do? Mention specific details about the industry, function, geography, company size. What kind of work you will do, and why this is the right next step?
How does this short-term goal connect with you long-term goal? What do you intend to do in the long term?
End with how Darden will prepare you to achieve this goal? What will you learn there academically? Which resources will you use outside the classroom that will help your professional growth? You could also add a short sentence or two on how you will contribute to Darden. Space is short, so whatever you write in this section should make logical sense for your career goals and knowledge and skill gaps.
