Essays for UNC Kenan Flagler 2024-25

UNC KF requires two mandatory essays and one optional Essay

Essay 1(500 words maximum)
What are your immediate career goals and how will you benefit from earning an MBA at Kenan-Flagler Business School? As the business world continues to evolve, circumstances can change and guide you in a different direction. Should your goals that you provided above not transpire, what other opportunities would you explore?

Essay 2 (500 words maximum)
Reflect on a project or initiative you were involved in that had a significant positive impact on a community, organization, or individual. How did this experience shape your sense of responsibility as a future leader dedicated to making a difference in the world?

Optional Essay:
Essay 3 (200 words maximum)
We encourage you to tell us more about who you are so we can get to know you as a person and potential member of the Carolina community. Use this essay to convey information that you may not have otherwise been able to in the application. Optional topics include:
Personal or professional accomplishments
Interests and passions
Gaps in work experience or inconsistent academic performance
Context for recommender selection
A fun fact about yourself

Reapplicant Essay (100 words):
If you are re-applying to the program, we appreciate your continued interest in UNC Kenan-Flagler. We require a complete application in addition to a brief essay that describes how your application differs from your previous submission and that alerts us to new test scores, a recent promotion, or other areas that demonstrate how you have strengthened your candidacy.

Resume:
Resumes should be one page long

Recommendation:
UNC requires ONE recommendation letter, preferably from a past or current supervisor. They give a grace period of 10 days after the deadline for submitting the recommendation. Questions are:

1. Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role in your organization. (50 words)
2. How does the performance of the applicant compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles? (E.g., what are the applicant’s principal strengths?) (500 words)
3. Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant’s response. (500 words)

Interview:
Interviews are conducted by invitation only, in-person or virtually.
