Lawyers represent a non-traditional category of MBA applicants who bring their unique profile, yet face their share of challenges in the MBA admission process.
To get a better understanding of how lawyers stack up in MBA admissions, we recently interviewed Pranay Kapoor, a seasoned lawyer with 8+ years of corporate experience in India’s top law firms and a graduate of IESE, Spain.
Pranay had a longish stint with the MBA applications, having applied for 3 straight years, before converting some enviable admits. A struggle with GMAT leading to an eventual switch to GRE and some personal issues prolonged the application cycle for him. But, along the way he picked up invaluable lessons about the MBA admissions process and what it takes to build a strong profile as a lawyer for applying to top business schools.
Here is what we discussed:
The motivation for lawyers to pursue an MBA.
How should lawyers present themselves to gain admission into the top b-schools?
How do b-school academics benefit lawyers? Which courses are most useful?
What challenges do lawyers face during the MBA coursework and how to overcome them?
What experiences and knowledge can lawyers contribute in the MBA classroom?
